SUMMARY:Philological Practices. A Comparative Historical Lexicon
DESCRIPTION:The three of us are currently co-editing a large collaborative 
 and international one-volume lexicon of indigenous terminology for philolog
 ical practices, agents, materials, genres, and institutions that are used b
 y textual traditions throughout the world, from japan to the maya, and thro
 ughout human history, from the mesopotamian civilizations to the current da
 y. Our presentation will discuss the history and conception of this project
 , will illustrate some of the issues and themes presented by various chapte
 rs such as those on ancient Greece, modern Western philology, and Chinese t
 extual scholarship, and will close with indications of some of the conceptu
 al problems we are dealing with.\n\nAnne Eusterschulte is Professor of Hist
 ory of Philosophy at Freie Universität Berlin. Her research areas include i
 ntellecutal history, aesthetics, medieval and early modern philosophy, cont
 emporary social philosophy, and the intersections of philosophy and philolo
 gies from a transcultural perspective.\n\nMartin Kern is the Joanna and Gre
 g Zeluck '84 P13 P18 Professor in Asian Studies at Princeton University. He
  works on the textual culture of ancient China.\n\nGlenn W. Most retired in
  November 2020 as Professor of Greek Philology at the Scuola Normale Superi
 ore di Pisa, and remains an External Scientific Member of the Max Planck In
 stitute for the History of Science in Berlin and a regular Visiting Profess
 or on the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago. He work
 s on ancient Greek, the Greco-Roman Classical tradition, and other Classica
